Let’s Go - The Godot Project - October 23rd and 24th

October 14th, 2008

Let's Go

CollaborationTown cordially invites you to a developmental workshop of Let’s Go, an ensemble-created collage play exploring and responding to the themes, language, characters, and history of Samuel Beckett’s defining masterpiece Waiting for Godot.  As we struggle for patience in a rapid yet anxious contemporary era — what are we waiting for and why?  What is the shared consciousness we know as reality, and what happens when our brain no longer adheres to it?  As we investigate these questions — and invite audience members to be voyeurs into the exhilarating and odd process of creating a new theatre piece — we scream, we dance, we embrace Vaudeville, we stand to the right side of our left brains, we call our mothers…and we wait.

It was only yesterday that CollaborationTown was a zygote floating around in Dionysus’ amniotic fluid.  But oh, how the time flies — we’re turning five years old!  And we seem to be progressing just like researchers say most five year olds do: We can now run, gallop, and tumble; we are noticeably cheerful, energetic, and enthusiastic; we enjoy planning and discussing who will do what; we’re more patient waiting for a turn or to share toys; we enjoy dramatic play (occasionally with other children, but almost always with a director, playwright, designers, full cast, and a budget we’ll probably go over); and most of all, the concept of “best friends” has become very important to us.  And that is why we want to celebrate turning five with YOU, our best friends!  Come help CTown blow out all five candles on our cake, and stop us from hysterically crying when the clown first arrives.

SAVE THE DATE!!!

CollaborationTown was honored to be interviewed on WLIU 88.3, the local Southampton NPR station, about our residency at The Watermill Center. Jesica Avellone, Geoffrey Decas, and Matt Hopkins were joined by Elka Rifkin (Program Director of The Watermill Center) for this radio look (hear?) into what we did out in the Hamptons.

CollaborationTown presents 365 Days/365 Plays

July 9th, 2007

On July 20 and 21, CollaborationTown will be presenting Week 36 of Suzan-Lori Parks’ 365 Days/365 Plays.

WHAT IS 365 DAYS/365 PLAYS?
365 Days/365 Plays started in November 2002 when Suzan-Lori Parks committed to writing a play a day for the next 365 days. From
Nov 13, 2006– Nov 12, 2007 the 365 Days/365 Plays National Festival will present the work simultaneously across the country, creating the largest collaboration in the history of American theater.

In New York City, The Public Theater will spearhead 365NYC. Over the course of this year, over 60 selected theater companies – curated by The Public and the 365 Days/365 Plays National Festival – will perform these brief, brilliant plays.

CollaborationTown’s performances will be at 8 pm at the Access Theater’s Gallery Space, 380 Broadway (at White Street, 2 blocks south of Canal), 4th floor, on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21.

6969

In 6969, lonely teenagers Mark and John find solace in cyberspace. But when the chatroom is invaded by a very naughty schoolgirl, a rapist who thinks he’s Jesus, a sex-starved secret agent, and a string of grisly murders, Mark is forced to question everything he knows…

Based on shocking true events, CollaborationTown’s “suspenseful…riveting…fascinating” (Martin Denton, nytheatre.com) new play will arrive at 59E59 Theaters February 9-24. Tickets are very limited!

October 25th, 2006

CollaborationTown’s 2007 season will get an exciting start at one of New York’s most esteemed new theatre spaces — the brand new, state-of-the-art 59E59 Theaters. After a workshop production this past June, 6969 was invited to be mounted as a full production at 59E59 in February 2007.

6969 takes as its source the bizarrely true story of Mark and John, two teenage boys who, in 2003, started an intense and very personal friendship over the internet. But they soon found themselves entangled in a web of deceit, sex, and even violence.

From this nearly unbelievable story, company member Jordan Seavey has written a highly theatrical two-act play that digs deep into the ideas of faith, responsibility, and love. The piece reveals a shocking and moving motive behind the entire chain of events and solidifies CollaborationTown as a bold company that celebrates theatrical invention and honest storytelling.

The 6969 workshop was created and produced by CollaborationTown, written by Jordan Seavey, and directed by Matthew Hopkins. Associate direction by Cary Cioffi. The cast included Jesica Avellone, Terri Gabriel, Julia Henderson, Boo Killebrew, Ryan Purcell, Max Rosenak, Dan Stowell, Phillip Taratula, and TJ Witham. Set design by Geoffrey Decas, lighting design by Laura Happel, costume design by Leon Dobkowski, sound design by Brandon Walcott. Stage Management by Robin Ganek.
